The sixth annual Benefit Ride for Honor Flight South Carolina was sponsored by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department along with several local businesses.

The riders started their day by gathering at S&S Road Consultants, Inc. in Chapin, and divided into groups, spending four hours riding in the Lake Murray area and stopping at local businesses.

They then came together again for a barbecue dinner and live and silent auction, also to benefit the cause, with a performance by local band Shodown.

Honor Flight South Carolina provides airline and ground transportation for World War II and Korean War military veterans to visit military memorials in Washington, D.C.

Lexington County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. David, Amick, a Navy veteran, served as organizer for the event.

“As a military veteran, David understands the importance of honoring persons who defended America’s freedoms in military combat,” said Sheriff James Metts. “Honor Flight South Carolina enables military veterans who are living on fixed incomes to visit memorials that our nation constructed in order to recognize the sacrifices that were made by members of the armed forces.”
